The Agent mental model

Separate global Agent state, the current Workspace, Session choices, and immutable runtime Generations.

The Agent has two places and four units of running state. Keeping them separate prevents most configuration and Session surprises.

Two places

Agent Home Workspace
~/.lenso/agent/ directory where the Agent starts
├── plugins/ behavior/config source files and project context
├── profiles/ Session choices AGENTS.md
├── runtime/ Host state
├── sessions.sqlite3
└── memory.sqlite3
  • Agent Home is global durable product state. Changing repository does not change installed Plugins, Profiles, Sessions, memory, or runtime lineage.
  • Workspace is the current project directory visible to Workspace, Process, Git, and suggestion Tools.

Set LENSO_AGENT_HOME to another absolute path when you need an isolated Agent.

Four running units

Unit What it decides
Profile The exact configured Plugin Instances selected for one Session.
Session Durable conversation identity and history.
Turn One user request and its bounded model/tool work.
Generation The immutable resolved App used by admitted Turns.

A Profile contains selection, not copied Plugin configuration. A Turn stays on the Generation where it started. When Plugin state changes and passes readiness, later Turns can use the replacement without rewriting an in-flight Turn.

Tools are Plugin-provided behavior

A Tool is model-visible behavior provided by a Plugin through the Agent Tool Capability. The Profile and per-Turn flags narrow which selected Tools are available; they do not turn arbitrary executables or the whole Host into Tools.
